12/11 :  Team Fortress

   Just thought i'd post a couple of videos for the Half Life 1 and 2 Mods Team Fortress Classic and Fortress Forever. Team Fortress has its roots in the original Quake and eventually found it's way on to the Half Life engine where it became incredibly popular. I used to play this game a hell of alot before Valve brought out the steam platform. I was even ranked pretty highly according to CSPORTS. Top 250 players out of more than 100,000.

Unfortunately a combination of HL2, the steam platform and better source based games decimated the TFC player population. Alot of people do still play and if you have a look at the first video you'll see they play to an amazingly high standard!


Team Fortress Classic



Valve has finally found the time to work on Team Fortress 2. Two years after releasing HL2! This is based on the source engine and it looks great but probably won't be out till next summer. Fortress Forever should be seen as the spiritual successor to TFC. Where as TF2 will be seen as the financial successor . It's made by people in their spare time and will be free to play. 30/10 :  New Laptop Acer Aspire 9423WSMi Review

   I’ve now had this laptop for over a week and I thought I’d post some details about it in case anybody else is looking to buy. First up, here's a thumb linking to a bigger photo. Excuse the wire mess , so much for wireless working eh?

I purchased the laptop from shopacer, part of CET UK.

Purchasing the laptop itself was a bit of a chore. I originally picked the previous model, it had a similar spec but with a Core Duo processor and a higher price tag, £800 Inc vat. So I ordered the laptop, for reasons unknown shopacer took the order but then later discovered the laptop was out of stock. They then informed me that it had also been discontinued. I was asked to pick another model so I picked a new AMD based system.

The problem was, the specification and the price had not yet been finalised and the system was only on pre-order. I really wanted an Intel based system but I went with the AMD system as it was all they had. Read the rest ...

21/08 :  0800 cold callers.

there's a growing trend of cold/nuisance callers using 0800 numbers to get your business. cold calling is cold calling and we don't appreciate it!

here's a quick list of the numbers that have been ringing me:

08007838422 - no info on this company, have not answered their calls

08004049736 - call center based in India working on behalf of Three Mobile, the claim to be offering you a free camera phone, which is probably true enough as they'll sign you up to a 18 month contract without your knowledge! they claim this will cost you nothing yet they ask for your card details.

the only good thing about them is once i answered and told them not to call again they didn't.

08000641081 - not answered this either but apparently if you want to know why they called you, call them back on an 0845 number. erm no.

if you get a call from these numbers feel free to tell them to [censored] right off

update: i'm still getting a number of calls from 08000641081 and also from a new number 08004088090 i expect it's the same company, if anybody knows different, leave a comment.
